The CEU Library

Guided and inspired by the University’s maxim “Ciencia y Virtud” The Library Department is committed to its unique and vital role to contribute to the operationalization of the University’s mission of generating and disseminating knowledge through teaching, learning, research and extension service in an academic atmosphere conducive to character formation and values inculcation.  The Library is an essential academic center that serves as a place of discovery, exchange and advancement of ideas through its commitment to accessing new information and archiving accumulated knowledge.

The traditional mission of academic libraries had been to select, collect and preserve information and to facilitate information.

The CEU Library with its services, resources and facilities today aligns itself to the goals of the university.

The Library Staff are committed to offer the highest level of service in responding to the information needs of the academic community and in helping users understand and effectively use new and traditional forms of information delivery.

Services and Utilization

OPACTechnical Services Section ensures easy access to acquired resources through the CEU OPAC (CEU Online Public Access Catalog) available at the CEU Library.  The use of the internet based services and facilities through: (1) WEB OPAC (2) Web based Integrated Library System (3) CEU Library Website/Webpage (4) Google Apps and Tools for Education and Library (5) Online resources provide users fast and easy information.Google Apps for Education

The services to students and faculty are shared through User Education Programs: (1) User instruction (2) subject specific orientation (3) e-resources services orientation.  Faculty are extended information on the latest researches through varied services.

The Main Library is wi-fi capable and equipped with internet connections.  User-centered services offered to students include: (1) research assistance (2) reference assistance (3) research writing assistance (4) course reserves (5) campus-wide and (6) remote access 24/7 to online databases  and (7) alumni lifetime privilege.

The library resources are available for room use, home use circulation and remote access.  These resources are accessible through the use of our new library web based integrated system “Follett Destiny Library Manager” district version and Online Public Access Catalogs in each library unit through the Internet with the URL http://destiny.ceu.edu.ph:8081 and CEU Library web page with the URL http:/www.library.ceu.edu.ph.

Services to the Students and Faculty

1. Books

1.1 Current Awareness

The book collection is monthly updated with the use of Current Awareness.  It is a monthly list of newly-cataloged books to keep up to date with the latest books available for circulation.  This list is posted on the CEU Library webpage regularly and keeping the faculty informed of the status of requested titles grouped according to discipline.  The use of ebooks in the Credo Reference provides reference information from 574 digital dictionaries, encyclopedias, handbooks from 78 publishers of reference.

 1.2 Course Reserve

The faculty/deans/academic heads are requested to place on reserve the titles of books based from their revised syllabi for use of the class/ students for supplementary reading.  This service is disseminated to faculty members through the dean / academic heads and provides linkage to the Library Department and a way to build the library collection.  Reserved books are placed and serviced for a semester and can be availed by students on an hourly basis for room use only.

1.3 Library Orientation

OrientationThis library service is given to the new Faculty members inducted into the teaching team of the University.  The library services, facilities and service hours are given emphasis for classroom and teaching support.  The library resources is introduced to the students and faculty members, the different Units, direct and indirect assistance extended for research support. The information literacy program is regularly given at the beginning of the semester and upon request of each college / school in their respective freshmen orientation / graduate students and faculty orientation.

2. Periodical Articles

2.1 “Table of Contents Alert” is a regular library service sent to Deans and Academic Heads for the recent articles of professional journals and magazines which supports the teaching assignment of the faculty members.  This service is received by the different colleges / schools and different academic programs by print and email alert.  The request of print articles are sent and delivered to the department and we provide these periodical articles for free to faculty members.

This library service is available at the Periodicals Unit, Reference and Information Unit, Dental Unit Library and the Graduate School Unit Library.

Internet Services

The print resources of the Library are supplemented by use of internet facilities.  Students and faculty members can enjoy access to internet by using the Cybrary Unit and through campus wide / WIFI access.  Students are given twenty-five (25) hours free per month on the use of internet while the faculty enjoys unlimited access.  A file can be saved through a flash drive or email.  A hard copy of the searched topic can be printed.

Laptop Users

wifilaptopThe Library also provides designated spaces and connectivity to laptop users by the extension cords provided in each unit which extends the internet connectivity and some laptops and smart phones can be reconfigured free for WIFI access through the Library Information Technology Division at designated schedule.  The enhanced services is given with direct assistance.  We give information literacy / orientation to these services and regularly posted news about these services.

Part of the indirect assistance is the use of web tutorials

Research Workshops

For 3rd & 4th year level students enrolled in Research / WOS Research workshops and orientation tour are subject to be scheduled prior to the request of the instructors. Searching for information sources for related literature
