Mendiola Street, from which the Mendiola Consortium takes its name, was named after Enrique Mendiola, a distinguished educator and civic leader. He was born on May 3, 1859. He studied at the Colegio de San Juan de Letran, then at the Ateneo Municipal de Manila. Although trained as a lawyer, he turned to teaching. He served in the faculty of the Liceo de Manila and the Burgos Institute. Among his works are Principios de Moral y Education Civica and Apuntes de Filipinas. He was for some time President of the Committee on Phiippine Interests and Councilor of the City of Manila.
